Valentines Day

            Valentines Day is a holiday created by the greeting card for capital gain. As if birthdays, anniversaries or special moments where not the best time to spend with one’s loved one’s we needed another excuse…Valentine’s Day! Romance and friendship is a continuous cycle that must come within and not as a duty. Special moments are created or can be created everyday; it is up to you to determine that.

            Than again we can’t knock a hustle. The U.S. is a capitalist country, so these types of “meaningful” holidays will always exist here. What I mean by we can’t knock the hustle is that we can not negate the sales these holidays generate for the mom’s & pop’s shops. Not to mention the independent vendors or street vendors that make an extra buck. Is it not part of the American Dream to generate opportunities for its citizens even if it is through a phony holiday?

            At the end Valentines Day is just exactly that…an excuse. A reminder to all of us to be reminded by a calendar, an alarm clock, a notification, an e-mail alert to wake up and spend time with our loved ones. Our society dictates much of the course of our lives so it makes sense for it to create a holiday for us too right? Sad reality. But nothing in this world is black and white. That notification might turn on the light bulb for an otherwise lost soul, or it can also represent a dreadful reminder. So the question is not what are you doing this February 14^th? But rather, to allow for a self-reflective moment.
